Ten Reasons Why October is the Best Month to get Married

October weddings are the ideal temperature

I’ve worked so many 30+ degree weddings in the last twelve years and as a girlie who runs hot I can’t tell you how excited I am when October hits and I know I won’t be a sweaty mess. English summers are getting hotter. This year I’ve had Brides passing out, Grooms throwing up, Newlyweds having to have cold baths in the middle of the day, even changing into their pyjamas at dinner because the suit or corset dress is just too much in our non-air-conditioned wedding venues! #sweaterweather all day long.

There is no light like October light

October is the time of year where the sun doesn’t get as high in the sky. The result? Golden Hour becomes Golden Day. A low sun is a photographers best friend. Instead of keeping you OUT of the sun because it’s too hot, the shadows are unflattering or you’re squinting to see, we are throwing you in it because it’s flattering, warming and just MAGIC! A word of warning that gorgeos Autumnal light will result in me screaming ‘OH GOT THE LIGHT’ at you. It usually results in giggles all round.

Name a better month to gather your Coven and dance in a field

I’ll wait

If you want to gather your sisters and embrace your inner witches there is no better month than October to dance around in a field. Bridesmaids/they’s/gay’s photos like no other.

The Colours. oH the Autumnal, October colours!

Yes this may be my personal preference (bias) shining through here but October colours really are my favourite. It’s the trees, it’s the skies, it’s the warmth. I love the true connection to nature and the way weddings can play with these elements. Just the BEST!

I can’t explain why but food is just better at Autumn Weddings

Is it something about a little chill in the air that makes hot food more delicious? Is it that big bowls of steaming potatoes are objectively better than a salad? I can’t qualify it, but I just know it to be true.

Your dogs won’t overheat!

Want your fur-baby to be a part of your day but don’t them to overheat at your midday July ceremony? Get married in their favourite season too! I absolutely adore seeing your dogs at weddings but only if they feel full comfortable. Making sure they are safe and happy is the priority and being able to take them on a little Autumnal stroll at your October wedding is all we need for magical photos of your family.

Who doesn’t love being cosy?!

We did our legal wedding in winter specifically because I wanted to wear a furry cosy coat. I know my fellow neuro-divergent’s will feel me on this one - WE JUST WANT TO BE COSY. Heat is overstimulating as hell. Give me a blanket and a soft jumper I can feel soothed in warm clothes that help regulate my nervous system.

Dr Martens deserve their time in the wedding sun

Us boot wearing queers need to have our wedding day Dr Martens and we need to have them in the appropriate month to kick leaves in. Need I say anymore?

Grass is green again!

Hot summers and hosepipe bans mean I’ve seen some very sad lawns this year. October weddings mean there’s been enough rain and regrowth that I don’t have to photoshop yellow fields and you don’t have to fret that you might cut your feet on spiky dead grass.

It might rain, but it might rain in August too

Planning an outdoor wedding in the summer is a risk in the UK. It might be too hot AND it might rain and be too cold. I’ve had weddings in June with shivering guests who weren’t expecting to be cold, July where outdoor ceremonies have had to be crammed into indoor spaces last minute and August tipis that have flooded due to the rain. With an October wedding you and your guests can plan for cold and rain, and when it turns out to actually be a lovely day - what a beautiful win! I can honestly say I’ve had far better weather in the Autumn in the last twelve years than I have in the summers. And what do we do if it rains? Well I’ve got a whole blog for you about just that.

Darker evenings = better dance floors

We’ve all seen the summer weddings where the sun doesn’t set until long into the evening - as late as 9.30/10pm in June - and guests are enjoying being outside in the low light more than on the dance floor. If you are having the kind of wedding where you want to encourage dancing early on then October is the perfect month for it. Dark at 7pm ready for a 8pm band to properly get the party going.
