Clapton Country Club Summer Wedding

Maddy and Rupert // 11.08.2018

FormalsLR-2068.jpg

When Mads and Rupes booked me for their CCC wedding I squealed with delight at the thought of going back to this awesome venue having shot there the year before - here for your viewing pleasure. This space is the dream for couples wanting to put their own stamp on their day, and for a photographer who is all about textures, cobbles and CACTI.

The guys got ready at M & R’s flat nearby, and the gals had use of the The Loft round the back of their venue - a wicked air bnb space that oozes urban chic.

Their humanist ceremony was held by Rupert’s Aunt, and it was one of the most JOYFUL ceremonies I’ve ever seen. Filled with laughter, songs, hands in the air like they just didn’t care and general giggling - it made for some cracking shots.

We spent literally 5 mins snapping some couple shots in the Tram Store and then the real party began! Maddy was super nervous about having her photos taken, so on our pre-wedding shoot a couple of months before, we figured out that the best way to make her feel comfortable was to ‘take this piss’ and pretend we were shooting album covers. I am a HUGE fan of this game.

The Winding House Summer Wedding

Jenni & Neil // 14.09.2018

I am a City gal at heart, and live for East London Warehouses. However, I also love escaping to forests and countryside - and so when Jenni and Neil showed me their venue, I was pumped. Hello East London meets Kent - it’s The Winding House!

reception-9322.jpg

This day was all about a celebration of J & N’s family, friends and love for each other. Non-stop smiles and dreamy light - I was in my element.

Colourful Festival Summer Wedding

Nadine & Dean // 25.08.2018

Dean promised Nadine that one day they would throw their own version of Glastonbury. I think they came pretty close with their EPIC festival wedding, tucked away in the fields of Redhill earlier this summer…

PortraitsLR-6323.jpg

(Possibly the worlds sweetest couple) N & D are creatives, and every detail of their day - from the bunting designed by their guests, to their best friends leading the ceremony - oozed heart and soul.

Nadine works (amongst her many talents) as a freelance video editor and we met on the set of a short film she was directing a couple of years ago. She has worked with many photographers and film-makers over the years, so I was truly honoured (if not a little bit terrified!) when she asked me to capture her day!

Westmead Events is the COOLEST space. Fields, long grass, space for a Tipi, willow trees, water, tents…it is everything you could dream of for a festival wedding! Lisa (the owner) was so warm and generous with her time and space, allowing us to get playful with smoke grenades and party into the wee hours of the morning!

Handily, Nadine’s bridesmaid Sammy is the owner of Deco Noir Events, and they provided the COOLEST vintage piano bar, with so many beautiful accessories, including an awesome old-school photo booth. Sammy is a total babe, and I can’t recommend her business enough - it made for the best relaxation point during the day and night!

As the sun set the party really began - first with a Ceilidh (my first experience of one - and I’m fully converted) and then with some classic indie rock and pop bangers. It was the perfect ending to the most perfect of weddings.

The Oak Grove Spring Wedding

12.05.2018

I met Jess and Dave when I snapped a pic of them with some sparklers at the wedding of my good friends Prudence and Tom (see their wedding here!) and was delighted when they asked me to video their stunning wedding at The Oak Grove, Upchurch. J & D are a delight to be around, and it would be hard to find a couple more unapologetically in love. Their day was relaxed, super fun and a wonderful celebration of their love. <3

Brockwell Park Pre-Wedding Shoot

I met Nadine a year or two ago whilst taking stills on set of a short film she was directing. She had emergency surgery on her teeth the morning of the shoot and came to set feeling less than great, but you would NEVER have known any difference. I certainly didn't! She bossed the day, worked beautifully with the cast and crew and didn't complain once. (She did hide half her swollen face with a Gabriel-style hair sweep, but I just thought that was her style!)

I was super chuffed when she asked me to shoot her and Dean's wedding. As a director/editor/general Creative I know she has a wonderful eye, and felt so flattered that she had chosen me to capture their day!

We met for a pint in Herne Hill's 'Off the Cuff' (if you haven't been, go) before catching the sun set over Brockwell Park. It was the perfect day for a slow wander, and I am so in love with the results!

Vintage Disco at The Mansion

VDlr-8029.jpg

A couple of months ago I decided to try and push myself a little harder with my social media presence. As much as I love insta, it can be frigging exhausting at times, and when you are a small business it can also be super overwhelming. My fav CP coffee creative hub, The Paxton Centre, was running a networking night, focusing on how to ‘Make Your Social Media Work For You’, led by the incredible Saundra O’Shea aka We Are SOS15.

I came away from that night feeling re-energised and ready to get creative. So the next morning when an email landed in my inbox from Saundra asking if I fancied a collab, I thought (shouted out loud) HELLO UNIVERSE.

VDlr-7685.jpg
VDlr-7788.jpg

Our Mission Statement:

"The shoot is set within the grounds and mansion of Beckenham Place Park; a beautiful setting where the once forgotten Manor is journeying through a renaissance. The transition is being guided by the family responsible for metamorphosis of the Bussey Building in Peckham and has opened up this majestic building for the community to enjoy.

Our narrative is the modern couple, hetro as well as same-sex. The bride loves vintage but adds her own twist with glitter and attitude. This is a rock 'n' roll take on traditional vintage. This bride is confident in her own skin, unapologetic, loving and vibrant.

Colours are bright and bold, flowers are wild, bags are glittery and the mood is joyful."

VDlr-8337.jpg
VDlr-8284.jpg
VDlr-7846.jpg

I really wanted this shoot to be about more than taking pretty images. I wanted to work with female led small business and suppliers with the interest of women supporting women, working with BAME models, and filling Beckenham Place with creative souls.

I like surrounding myself with badass women who inspire me. So I sent a lot of insta DMs convincing lots of beautiful women to model for us, do hair and make up for us, loan us their products/time/energy/presence…and thankfully… they said yes!

Saundra did a fantastic job of sourcing dresses from the wonderful Kitty and Dulcie. They produce Vintage inspired gowns at very affordable prices (I'll be blogging about them later this month in more depth) and were the perfect fit for our vision.

I had already worked with Love2Sparkle a couple of years back on one of my first styled Wedding shoots. I love her attention to detail and colourful pieces, and she's also just really, really lovely!

Saundra's bags brought the 'rock n roll' to the table, and I love how much of a statement piece they can be. I'll also be blogging separately about her beautiful pieces later this month and can't wait to tell you more about her products. (I'm getting a custom bag made from her and I am SO EXCITED about it!)

The dress below was supplied by the fabulous CollectIF, who have just launched a new bridal range. I love the soft details and pastel colours, which were complemented by Lizzie's gorgeous flowers.

Jewellery was supplied by The Lovely Edit (another blog to come). Laura is a self proclaimed 'jewellery magpie' and the geometric pieces she sent us were a gorgeous embelleshment to our looks.

The giant task of hair and make up was effortlessly dominated by my girls Helen, Rosie, Rachael and Rosi. They had 8 models to work with over a really short amount of time, but as well-seasoned artists they smashed out 8 totally unique and wonderful looks. These ladies are absolute professionals as well as just being super lush and really cool. (Links to all their stuff at the end).

This day was about bringing colour, bold looks, diversity and rock n roll to Beckenham Place, and it was a dream to be a part of. Speical thanks to Claire who held the day together like glue and Victor for following us all around with a camera.

Brighton Engagement Shoot

8.03.2018

Claire and Chris are two of my favourite people in the whole world. (Don't tell them that - I don't want them knowing I'm nice about them behind their backs.) In August of 2019 I'm going to be a Bridesmaid at their wedding and I am SO excited to a) see them get married and b) actually be in some wedding pictures myself! I think I might have been more excited when they asked me to do their engagement photos than I was when Claire asked me to be her Bridesmaid...these two are just so CHIC and KEWL and as Brighton is their fav hang-out spot it just had to be done. Take a peek:

Considering it had only been a few days since 'The Beast From The East' struck us, the weather was pretty mild and we actually had some sun! After a walk on the beach-front we retreated to The Laines to escape the sea-breeze and explore gorgeous streets on the hunt for quiet and colourful spots (and there were plenty).

Claire and Chris are two of the most generous, caring and intelligent people I know and their wedding day is going to be SO special. It'll be the first time both their families are in the same country (let alone room!) as Chris is from the States, and I know they are going to put their own twist on every aspect of the day. I just can't wait!

Richmond Park Winter Wedding

10.02.2018

In 2014 my good friend Shorts (she's small) invited me and my boyf along to Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium. I had been to a Festival every summer since I was 15 so was a straight-up 'Oh Hot Dyam.' We were going with Shorts' brother Penz (I give people nicknames it's an addiction) and his mates Rimmer (can't take the credit for that one) Katy & Darren. We were a bunch of mismatched goofballs who met in St Pancras, hopped on the Eurostar to eat waffles and party to Portishead, and three years later K & D asked me to be their Wedding Photographer. A sweet story ain't it? The waffles were dyaaam sweet.

Ask anyone who knows either of these two to describe them and I have no doubt the answer will be something along the lines of 'they are just the sweetest, kindest people in the world.' I knew this day was going to be perfect - whatever they did, because they are so meant to be together. But enough waffling - let's see some pics!

Katy and her best women were getting ready at the stunning Petersham Hotel right by the entrance to Richmond Park. They had a whole suite to themselves and the most beautiful balcony overlooking the park. It was a cold and grey day, but this didn't damped spirits one bit! The locations of the day were all totally stunning so it was never going to be an issue if the weather decided to be a bit pants. The boys got ready at Katy and Darren's pad and I made sure we had time in the morning to get over to them also (mostly to see Mabel the cat but a bit to see Darren too. I suppose).

Katy's dress was a stunning Lillian West design bought from Willow and Lace Bridal Boutique in Tealby, Lincolnshire and the Bridesmaid's dresses were from Lindybop. The boys wore suits from Scope and Darren's came from Edit Suits. I love the purple theme that ran throughout the day and felt suited to being in London's largest Royal Park!

Pembroke Lodge, tucked away in the heart of Richmond Park, is a beautiful location. Surrounded by gardens, greenery and deer, it has a intimate and calming feel. The staff are not only lovely but awesome at what they do and they made sure the day ran without a hitch. It's also such a great venue for all-weather-occasions. With windows all around the light floods in and makes for beautiful images!

We quickly took some 'formals' in front of the beautiful fireplace before I snuck Katy & Darren off to have 5 minutes to themselves. I adore the pillars in the walkway that links the reception room to the entrance and was so happy we got to snap some quiet moments before the sun set. How stunning is this Bride?!

Katy and Darren very kindly invited me to sit with the guests at dinner time (after some adorable speeches) and I can safely say the food was INCREDIBLE. The desert was my favourite - a super light meringue with forest fruits - and that's coming from someone who is very much savoury over sweet!

Before the dancing kicked off (The Peaks were the band and they brought the party!) was the cutting of the cake. This cake was incred and was the talk of the night! A masterpiece of cheese and colour - it looked genuinely beautiful. Katy & Darren's first dance was, of course, super cute and I had a great time on the dance floor catching some enthusiastic movers and shakers! My favourite prop of the day was the Danger Mouse cut out...always great to have a photo-op moment on the dance floor and this was no exception.

I had so much fun at this Wedding and it was the best way to kick off 2018. Katy and Darren are the kind of couple that make you smile when you look at them, and the whole day reflected their laid back and happy souls. I have to say a big thanks to my second shooter Victor who shot video for me on the day and caught some beautiful moments. It felt super special to be working this wedding - and we were a long way from the scruffy festival clothes we met in! Thank you so much to K & D for choosing me to capture your day. It was a true honour!

West-End Wedding

18.11.2017

I got the call for this one super last minute (In fact it was the week before and I was on holiday in Disneyland Paris, having the time of my life) but I knew it would be an amazing wedding and that I couldn't possibly turn it down. D and James booked me for my All Day Videography package - so I'm super pleased to share with you their highlights video and some stills from this...

Danica and James are immensely talented and creative people. Their wedding was happening the same day 'Love Actually' is set (5 weeks before Christmas) and with the help of their equally talented friends made an epic short film celebrating each and every guest at their wedding. There wasn't a dry eye in the building!

Screen Shot 2018-01-23 at 19.18.49.png

The ceremony was held at the appropriately nicknamed 'Actors Church' in Covent Garden, and guests then donned umbrellas to make the short walk to Century Club on Shaftesbury Avenue, super close to D's place of work - Williamson & Holmes - where she bosses London-Life as an agent.

Screen Shot 2018-01-23 at 19.19.44.png

I loved every second of working this (secretly super stagey) wedding, and spotted so many faces I had worked with before, so spent my down-time catching up with old clients. Watch the video to spot a sneaky Rolling Stone...(I played it cool don't worry)...

Danica and James have two beautiful boys (who were non-stop adorable on the day!). I feel super lucky to have been a part of their story and loved what we captured on the day. Videography is such a unique way to hold onto memories and is a way to add another element to your wedding day. Get in touch if you'd like to find out more <3

Six Tips for Awesome Wedding Pics

If capturing brilliant pictures of the day is important to you (which it totally should be, right?) then I've got some news for you; it's simple. Let me tell you how...

Practice Makes Perfect

I offer Pre-Wedding shoots as part my photography packages and I would recommend that you use them. If you are feeling especially uncomfortable or nervous about getting couple shots on the day, then this is such a great way of getting a feel for how I work, testing 'poses', finding what does (and doesn't) work for you etc. Getting the piece of mind that when it comes to the day we won't need to spend hours away from your guests, as you'll slip right back into it.

Having a winter wedding and gutted you wont be able to get those shots in your local park with the spring blossoms? Let's shoot in May! Getting married in the countryside but equally feeling a city connection? Let's hit Shoreditch!

DSC_5692.jpg

Lighting is Everything

It just is. I am a die hard seeker-of-light and if you want the best out of your wedding photography this will be a huge factor. Natural light is always best, particularly for those gorgeous getting ready shots - so try to find large windows and high ceilings when selecting a venue for the mornings.

You may have heard of 'Golden Hour' - the time just before sunset when everything is dreamy - if you want killer shots, then this is the time to plan around! Winter weddings are trickier, as the sun can set as early as 3.30/4pm so think about having an early ceremony to leave time for capturing sunsets and 'formals' in the best light you can.

Formals-7258.jpg

Ceremony Rules

This is often the biggest blur of the day, so it's super important to capture every moment, every smile, every tear. Fairly often in churches and smaller town halls, the Vicar/Registrant will want the photographer to be glued to one spot - and that's just the way it is. It can be so disappointing to find out on the day that your ceremony will only be captured from one point of view, or that there will be no pictures of you walking down the aisle, so be sure to chat to the right people early on, and notify your photographer of any strict regulations.

Ceremony-0671.jpg

Rush-Not-Want-Not

The most common 'mistake' I see at weddings is feeling like you have all the time in the world to get ready, and then, suddenly, it's all gone. This can be a great time to play with creative shots of you and your bridal parties, head to the pub for a nerve-calmer, explore the grounds of your venue, or - if you're two for breaking traditions (like me!) - having a 'first look' moment. Make sure you've trialled your hair and make up, have everything you need for the bridal party and, if it's important to you, time to play with some fun shots.

Location, Location, Location

The backdrop is so often what takes your pictures to the next level. If you are getting married in a hampshire barn, it's super likely that we'll be near those breathtaking hills. A London warehouse has usually got a rooftop. An elegant country estate might be adorned with vintage furniture and classic paintings. Let's use it all! I will always visit your location prior to the day to get a feel for the venue and the use of light - and this is a great time to chat ideas for where to hold speeches, take the 'formals' and sneak off for some couple shots too. Bonus points for climbing the hill/warehouse stairs in your wedding choos.

How did the world get by before pinterest? More importantly, where did we all get our wedding inspo' from? If there are poses you love, or angles of your venue you must have - pin it and share away. I can't guarantee I'll recreate it, nor that I'd want to, but I'll happily take the inspiration and find a way to make it work for you.

If there is a certain style you like, find someone with that style. You can't be dissapointed when your fine art photographer hasn't captured the edgy vibe of your Brixton wedding - so do your research and get prepping.

Intimate Chelsea Civil Ceremony

30.10.2017

I first met Natalie in 2014 when updating her headshots on Southbank. Since then we followed each other on instagram and collabed on a fashion project, discovering we were both from the same home town. I was so excited when her and Luke got in touch to ask me to shoot their London service ahead of their South African wedding (Luke's home country). They had so many ideas for the day and even presented me with a mood board. I LOVE moodboards.

We met an hour or so before the ceremony at The Tate Modern, who so fantastically let us roam the exhibits snapping away as we pleased! Luke and Natalie are beautiful people - just look at them - they are also very much in love and were showered in compliments from the gallery visitors we passed. I love it when couples are willing to get creative, and Luke's enthusiasm was so encouraging - I never thought I'd see a Groom with as keen an eye for floor tilings as me!

We hopped in an Uber and headed to Chelsea Old Town Hall to meet a small gathering of family members who couldn't make it out to SA in the week to follow. The ceremony may have been small but it was totally gorgeous. After a reading from Natalie's Dad, her and Luke read their own vows to a chorus of sniffles from us all. I can't begin to describe how in love these two are - so I'll show you in images instead...

Luke was super keen on getting an amazing confetti shot, and to seal the deal they had two types of confetti - and a lot of it - a great tip for couples wanting that killer shot. I think we smashed it and it's still one of my favourite pictures!

To finish a beautiful afternoon we headed to the nearby streets of Kensington and Sloane Square in search of colourful houses, which we found in no time, and continued to get creative!

Natalie has worked with so many amazing photographers in her career, so I felt incredibly honoured to have been asked by her and Luke to capture their London ceremony. They are a truly beautiful couple with giant hearts and love to share with everyone they meet. I can't wait to see where life takes them next. <3

Friendly Place '8-bit' Wedding

28.08.2017

Within 5 minutes of meeting Sarah and Tom I felt like I'd made a new set of friends. We met at my flat in Crystal Palace for a Pre-Wedding shoot a few months before their wedding day, and my cats took a shining to them instantly. Always a good sign. The more we spoke about the venue, styling and vibe of the day the more excited I got. A DIY Wedding? With an N64? Mario Kart? Banana-skin plushies? In an warehouse 20 minutes away from my house? This is gonna be fun!

Tom and Sarah were 'legally' married the day before in an intimate service close by, so they asked a good friend to officiate at the Friendly Place ceremony. I love these kinds of ceremonies - laid back, personal and sincere to the core. They read their own vows as a room of their most loved ones stood and watched with beaming smiles. I had the freedom of being able to move around during the service (often Churches and Town Halls are strict with where the photographer has to stand) meaning I could capture everything from multiple angles, never missing a second.

Friendly Place is one my favourite venues to date. Spread over 3 floors and filled with wonders; from huge stage lights to mismatched chairs, giant industrial fans to scary clown paintings (the latter was stored away on Tom's request, I still think it should have been the ceremony backdrop) it's a clean space ready to be turned into whatever you desire. As long as what you desire is 'quirky'.

Tom and Sarah are talented people with equally talented friends and family - every detail, from the wall stickers to the paper bouquets - were designed and made from scratch by them. My favourite piece was their 8-bit heart cake, made by Tom's wonderful mum.

Details-1678.jpg
Details-5564.jpg

After the ceremony Ushers did a miraculously fast turnaround of the room and we held 'formal' shots in the same space in front of the beautifully crafted backdrop. It's important to find a minute for yourselves on the day, and after the formals I snuck Sarah and Tom up to the private rooftop for a quiet moment before the real fun began.

Guests were then free to grab a drink, play a game of Mario Kart, Foosball, admire the bake-off cake table or find a cosy sofa to sink into. I was very tempted to dump my camera and play on the N64 all night long - but I fought the urge and happily wandered from room to room snapping up happy faces.

Guests then sat at trestle tables to listen to the brilliant speeches, and enjoyed a shot of something colourful (and not kid-friendly) as they raised a test-tube to the happy couple. I was very kindly invited to sit and eat with the guests and throughly enjoyed the catering from Easy Gourmet, one of Friendly Places' recommended.

Goodwood House Elegant Wedding

17.11.2017

Fiona (Fifi) and Tom have got great taste. Everything they do/wear/own/create is wonderful and there was never any doubt that their Wedding would be beautiful. It was, and then some. Fifi on more than one occasion referred to the day as 'a show' much to Tom's despair, but in reality it was a gorgeous display of their love for each other.

Fi spent the morning getting ready at her parents new apartment in East Sussex. So new it was yet to be moved into, meaning the girls had a wonderful space to spread out in. This Wedding is an example of my All Day Photography and All Day Videography package - I bought along a second shooter who documented the entire day on film. I then edited this to create the highlights video shown above.

The Ceremony was held St Peter's Church in Chailey where Fifi was Christened. John, the Vicar, had everyone in fits of giggles and Fi's very talented friends Noam, Claire and Kate performed a medley of songs written just for her and Tom.

The Reception was held at the incredibly grand Goodwood House. I had met Fiona and Tom there in the summer to do a reccy, which I often do, to look at the venue before the day and get an idea of light, space and how events will run. I was super excited to see it in the winter; lit purely by candlelight and a few chandeliers, it was such a beautiful space. The walls were adorned with grand portraits and every room was filled with trinkets that guests could explore freely .

After an amazing three course meal (I can't even begin to describe level of succulence, I'm salivating again) Fi's Father, Tom, the best men and Fifi gave their speeches. There wasn't a dry eye in the house as Fifi read the adorable poem she had written for Tom (see highlights video at the top of the blog for a snippet).

I loved working this wedding. It was something very different to my usual style, but even though it had the look of a grand and regal wedding, at the heart of it were Tom and Fifi; two of the warmest souls you'll ever meet. The day was filled with love and laughter and I felt very privilidged to have been chosen to capture it all.

East London Warehouse Wedding

28.10.2017

Prudence and Tom have become dear friends and capturing their unique Wedding was a day I'll never forget. A humanist ceremony, a feminist slant and a focus on supporting small businesses - this was my kinda wedding!

CCC-6034.jpg
CCC-5459.jpg
CCC-6366.jpg

Prudence and her best women got ready at the venue - Clapton Country Club, whilst Tom and his best men were 5 mins away at an air bnb. I love it when couples are close to each other in the morning as this means I can visit both parties before the ceremony for those awesome 'getting ready' shots.

CCC-5574.jpg
CCC-5679.jpg
CCC-5611.jpg

Prudence gifted her Best Women with a Superwomen activist pack each, including a feminist book and tote bags saying ‘Nevertheless she persisted’, starry studs from Tilly Thomas Lux, a necklace from The British Museum and a glittery clutch from PupTart. Tom had created a wonderful scrapbook of memories that P opened in the morning (and proceeded to close swiftly for fear of tears and freshly applied mascara!)

CCC-6476.jpg
CCC-6411.jpg

Prudence and Tom had two ceremonies on the day; the first a Civil Ceremony at The House at Clissold Park. So we hopped into a cab and headed off to meet a small party of family members for a short and super sweet ceremony. P walked down the aisle unaccompanied, and her sister Madeline read ‘The Song of Science’ by Tyler Knott Gregson - a gorgeous poem exploring love and science.

We had a very limited amount of time before the 30 people present needed to join the other 100 now gathering at Clapton Country Club for the Humanist Ceremony - but the day was gorgeous (despite it being late October) and the light just right, so we raced through some 'formals' in record speed!

And then it was onto the main event! This was the first Humanist Ceremony I had witnessed and I absolutely loved it. Celebrant Stephanie Kendrick from Humanists UK led the ceremony with a relaxed and friendly vibe, P was accompanied down the aisle with both her parents and the couple read their own vows. All whilst stood in front of P's gift to Tom; a bespoke Bag&Bones neon light reading 'More Than Words'. It made for an awesome backdrop.
