Brighton town hall wedding wearing lucy & yak

brighton town hall in your yaks? yes please

Just three weeks after our own Brighton Town Hall Wedding I met Anna (she/her) & Daire (he/him) back in the regency room for their legal bit and was overjoyed to see Anna was wearing the jumpsuit version of my Lucy and Yak coat! Anna grew up in Brighton and whilst their lives are now settled in Nottingham when it came to deciding on the legal wedding it was a no brainer. Inviting a handful of their closest family they opted for my Town Hall package to capture the occasion. It also doubled up as a great ‘pre-wed’ shoot ahead of their big second wedding in County Mayo this July! I am making the trip over in the summer to capture that one too so it was extra special to be able to document both occasions. As always at Brighton Town Hall, the staff are magical, making sure to put you at ease and even offering back up confetti when it had been forgotten.

After the ceremony we crossed the road to get to the beach. The sun was beaming down and whilst their was a slightly icy wind - it is January after all - with some huddling for warmth and a nice short list of group shoots we released the fam to grab a drink whilst Anna, Daire and myself continued a little Brighton stroll, mixing digital and 35mm photography.

Resident records, Pavilion gardens, the north laines, lucy & yak

There were a couple of spots on their list they wanted to hit: Resident (as big music fans) and the kissing statue near Brighton pier. I must have cycled, walked and driven past this artwork thousands of times over the years and have never noticed it! This is the joy of collaborating with my clients - we always end up sharing something new with each other. Lucy & Yak - the staple clothing wear of the Brightonian, have recently taken over the iconic GAK store which was equal parts sad (it’s an instituion and also the place where Anna purchased her first guitar) and equal parts exciting to have a bigger store to play with. I even had a passer by look over my shoulder when taking the shot exclaiming ‘ooh well done, great pic’ to which I replied ‘I know, right?!’ After a visit to Resident and buying Matt Berninger’s ‘Get Sunk’ I took them to my favourite place for a coffee - WolfFox - and a little stroll through the Pavilion Gardens before dropping them back off at Burnt Orange where they were having a celebratory lunch.

town hall weddings have my heart

There’s a reason Tristan and I decided to do our legal bit in Brighton Town Hall and I know it’s why so many of my clients do the same. Their openness and acceptance of everyone (I loved being asked for my pronouns in all our conversations with them) and the flexibility they give you to create a really relaxed and personalised ceremony is that of no other. And being in the heart of the best city in the world meaning we can stroll the beach, the streets, the gardens, the shops and feel a sense of safety. As Anna said ‘it’s the only place I can think of wear getting married in a Lucy & Yak jumpsuit is accepted’ - and I agree.
